The Test of English as a Foreign Language also known as TOEFL is a formalised test used to assess the English language proficiency of non-native speakers seeking admission to English-speaking universities. More than 11,000 universities and other organisations in over 190 countries and territories recognise the TOEFL exam. TOEFL is one of the world's major English-language tests, alongside IELTS, Cambridge Assessment English, and Trinity College London exams.
The exam is computer-based, lasts around 4 hours, and is scored on a scale of 0-120 points. The minimal TOEFL score criteria vary by institution or purpose, but a score of 100 or more is regarded acceptable. To prepare for the TOEFL, test takers can study English grammar, vocabulary, and writing abilities, as well as practise listening and speaking assignments. After passing the 12th grade exam from a reputable board or university, candidates can take the TOEFL test.
